“Interactors they gather, a purpose unknown,
Young minds, old values, in silence they’ve grown,
With circuits that hum and ideas that spark,
In USIU they coded, to leave their mark.”

We’re back again!!!
The annual Interact fanfare organised by the sisterhood that is the Rotaract Club of Nairobi Central and the Rotaract Club of USIU-A was in full effect! All this under the guiding hand of our mother club, the Rotary Club of Nairobi.

We covered the theme of the decade, that is “AI and Tech” and there was no better place to have this innovative discussion than the technological metropolis that is the prestigious United States International University – Africa.
Schools of all sorts donned the Garage, from historic academic giants such as the Starehe Boys’ Center, to schools embedded in the country’s history such as The Kenya High School, with many more Changezz present, if you get my drift.

The hall was decked with over 500 buzzing Interactors, they were eager, the school patrons excited and Rotaractors on standby, in wait for the spectacle planned.
Breaths were baited.

“Through service they wander, where others won’t tread,
A path of impact, with words left unsaid.
What powers that mission, unseen by the rest?
What fuels their resolve, their endless quest?”

The sessions were littered with industry leaders in the field of the future. Kicking off with one Mutembei Kariuki, an East African representative in the latest Google AI Summit in Ghana. He reiterated the potential career opportunities that the Interactors could get into and how they could leverage on AI in their potential careers choices. Oh, and even how to study for KCSE a bit better and a whole lot more efficiently (ethically of course).

Just like the famous combinations of Peanut Butter and Jelly, arbantone and matatus, or Eldoret and greatness; Mutembei’s session blended seamlessly with that of Joan Mbesya who delivered a seminar on the ethics governing AI usage and using it responsibly.
AI is a tool if placed in good hands could do absolute wonders, and what of that tool falling on the hands of agents for change? We’ll leave that for you to decide.
Let’s just say Interactors are armed and ready; and at this time it’s only lunchtime.

“Interactors and tech, a fusion strong,
Together they thrive, they march along.
Change-makers now in a digital space,
Lighting up hope in every place”

Jonathan Gichohi and Rtn. Dr. Salome Gitoho punctuated the speaking sessions of the day with captivating ensembles of note. The former, noting the emerging trends in the tech space with his experience in automation proving to be the tipping point of the conversation; and the latter providing an interesting spin on AI’s effect in the Human Resource Management space.
Now we know how we get seriously “vetted” for roles we apply for.
All of which culminated in mentorship break-out sessions where students interacted freely with other students and Rotaractors alike.

Listen, we weren’t just discussing neck-breaking technology. We had a party too, one only our twins in Kampala Ssese could match, that’s for sure. No school came to play when the DJ decided to get us going.
All in all, it was another fun-filled day of mentorship, innovation and growth. From our influential speakers to our impactful partners to DGE Warimu Njagi for gracing the event; Interactors are our future and it is safe to say that that future was made a little bit better that Saturday.

To Interact…

No problem too hard, no idea to reject,
Breaking the norm, defying what’s decked.
And what’s their secret? What fuels this trek?
A force that empowers: AI and Tech.
