My second interactive session at Rotaract Club of Nairobi was the mentorship cocktail held at Cool Breeze Garden, Muthaiga on Saturday, 10th September. Having been a guest at this great club, I had previously interacted with few members. A thought of taking a back seat crossed my mind but contrary to my expectations, the reception from members of RCNC and other guests was quite warm, friendly, and welcoming.

Originally convened by the Professional and Leadership Development committee, the mentorship cocktail was an insightful yet interactive session where members, guests, alumni, and friends of RCNC got to stir a discourse on various thematic issues including leadership, finances, mentorship, among others.

In random groups of 5s,6s and 7s, members attending the mentorship cocktail had a rare opportunity to engage with each other and deliberately share insights aimed at positively impacting the other individual. A glass of cocktail and light snacks was at our disposal! Nothing unites rotaractors more than food and at RCNC, food is Importanter!

The setup was well thought-through! The ambience was perfect for heart-to-heart conversations. There was some smooth jazz in the background and the weather was in its best behavior. We had the option of switching groups as much as we pleased to maximize on drawing the most insights from as many participants as possible. The mentorship cocktail was one of the best and most productive events I have attended at RCNC!

You wonder if I have any take-homes for you! Of course!

  • It is prudent to have a mentor in your life. Someone you look up to for inspiration or advice. Do not look too far. Look around you. There is always something to learn from your immediate network.
  • Leadership skills and personal values play a pivotal role in our well-being. It is good to note that leadership begins with self-leadership because charity begins at home.
  • Good fiscal management is a modern-day skill that remains elusive to many. Investments and Savings are also part of the bigger picture.

By the time I got home, I felt much more empowered and inspired. The RCNC Mentorship cocktail had made a positive impact on my private, social, and professional life. For that, I am eternally grateful to the Rotaract Club of Nairobi Central taking time to organize such an impactful event.

Cannot wait for my next dose!
